Boasting a Group 3 win as a 2YO over the 7 time Group 1 winning NZ superstar Melody Belle, Gift of Power has always been a tricky horse with untapped ability.
There are two very simple things you need to know about Gift of Power. The firmer the track, the better this horse runs and that the horse does NOT handle the Sydney way of racing.
Already located in the Mornington stable of the Anthony Freedman camp, this speedster could go to the next level with the change of environment.
Gift of Power is a horse I’ve had my eye on ever since her open class demolition job at Awapuni in a slick 1.07.46 for the 1200m, the final 600m in 33.39. She won by 10 lengths on that day. She only knows one race of racing, on speed with sustained speed. Her undoing, like most leaders, is pressure.
With a horse of this quality, most other stables would chuck her in the deep end and aim her at a Moir/Manikato campaign.
The Freedman camp have nothing but time with Gift of Power and the first step to increasing her value is gaining Australian black-type.
The stable indicated to me that there are no firm plans as to a target race for this preparation.
Expect to see Gift of Power having another trial before kicking off her campaign in a mares race later this month.
